ResponsibilitiesJOB SUMMARY
Performs diagnostic sleep procedures for patients as ordered by a physician, and in accordance with established protocols, standards and practices. Work includes; 1) laboratory set-up, 2) patient preparation 3) performing, observing and evaluating daytime and overnight polysomnograms, 4) scoring sleep staging 5) assisting in the tabulation of data from scored records, and 6) monitoring and checking equipment for possible changes/adjustments as necessary during the study.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Sleep Lab Manager and requires thorough knowledge of the function and safe operation of equipment used to monitor and record breathing (airflow/effort), electroencephalograms (brain waves), electrocardiograms (heart rate and rhythm), electromyograms (muscle activity), and pulse oximetry (blood oxygenation / saturation).
Incumbents are also accountable for maintaining their skills and knowledge by participating in conferences, technical meetings, and other educational activities as required by their certification of registration and participating in departmental quality assurance programs within the scope of hospital-wide program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Successful completion of an American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) accepted educational program leading to an Associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography.
OR
Successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state licensed and /or nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities required.
